Tips on choosing dynamometer
In order to achieve the best performance of a bike or a car it is always best to have an appropriate inertial chassis dynamometer instead of using a lot of fuel to boost or making any other kind of modifications. There should be clean drums having big diameter and a high quality grip. Dual rollers should not be used as they are not suitable for this purpose.
A dynamometer should possess powerful fans and there should be proper flow of air. Besides, a skilled operator should handle it. A system having brakes is not at all suitable for such an application. The dynamometer in association with plug readings is the perfect means to set up a car or a bike. Gas analyzers are of no use in such a situation. There are some people who desire to set up a stock or mildly tuned bikes or cars fuel injection system; or a carburetor system checking the proper ignition or jetting. In such cases one has to find a proper-braked system having a proper gas analyzers and twin rollers. This is supposed to be the best means of setting up such vehicles.
A person who is working on mildly tuned cars or stocks to find fault or to check the car’s health should use this type of dynamometer tools. He should be a skilled technician who is adept in handling such high-tech gadgets. An inertial dynamometer should be used in order to get the exact image of the power curve. When buying a dynamometer a person should first decide on the kind of work that will be performed by the dynamometer and accordingly make his choice. A significant point that should be kept in mind is that inertial dynamometer though cheap is not easy to control.
Irrespective of the kind of dynamometer that is chosen by a person, the most important part is to control the conditions of testing. The accuracy of the equipment of the dynamometer is not enough. One has to ensure that improper use of the dynamometer do not distort the engine of the vehicle. Certain norms have to be followed when preparing a bike or a car for the dynamometer test.
While preparing a car for the test one must check the level of oil and ensure that it is not overfilled. If needed a change of the filter and oil should be done. One should be sure that the filter for air is clean. The coolant level should be checked. One should visually check if there is any existence of coolant leaks. The tires should be checked in order to ensure that there is accurate pressure and they are in a proper condition. This has to be done those vehicles that are powerful as there can be a problem with the grip. Enough fuel has to be added. These are all that are needed while choosing a dynamometer which in no way can damage the engine of the car.
