How dynamometers are used for engine testing

The engine technology is largely dependent on Dynamometers. In fact the development and the enhancement executed in the engine technology is largely due to the use of Dynamometers. Transferring power in different parts of a vehicle or machine is maneuvered by the Dynamometers. It also helps to make this process more effective and efficient. Though they are used for a particular sector because of its huge expense, it can manipulate the situation with such ease that it will certainly help to reduce other costs.

Numerous types of methods for testing the system of dynamometer are available now. This testing is very important in determining the capacity of a machine or vehicle. The result of this test will have a great impact on the ultimate production of an engine. In this technique, the engine is generally examined in rough conditions to get a complete and final knowledge of the actual capacity of the engine. Future improvements and revamping of an engine is largely decided on the result of this test. It also consolidates the security matter.

Inertia dynamometer tests the condition of an engine after putting an inertial mass load. It examines the requirement of power for a specific engine to accelerate that mass. On the other hand a Brake Dynamometer examined the condition of an engine after applying various types of load on an engine. These two are the most important testing methods to get a perfect idea about an engine. The results are shown in a graph.

Complete information about an engine can be obtained if a dynamometer test can be done. There are two types of dynamometer test, which are used in this purpose. Steady State is one of the two available options. Steady State test can be performed on the brake dynamometers system. But another one- Sweep Test can be performed on a brake dynamometer system or on an inertia dynamometer system. Sweep Test can further be divided into some sections according to the process. Inertia Sweep is one of them. Here the power requirement is examined very closely after providing a fixed inertial mass flywheel. The rpm is reckoned with due care in this test.

There is another type of Sweep Test that is: Loaded Sweep Test. This test is further divided into two sections. In a simple fixed load sweep test, a load, which is less than the output of an engine is used in this test. The acceleration rate, the output of power is examined with care in this test. Controlled Acceleration Sweep Test is another option that is also used in testing an engine. Though it is quite similar with the previous test, it is used to examine the impact of the summation of active load control on an engine.

Despite of the implementation of this technology some errors can be occurred depending on various factors. Brake dyne system can wipe out these errors by taking the help of computer.
